about
In 2024, the Center was established as part of an experimental initiative at the School of Advanced Studies (SAS), University of Tyumen. Its mission is to drive the development and implementation of AI-based educational solutions across Russian universities and contribute to the global conversation on AI application in higher education.
In 2023, SAS encountered the challenge posed by AI technologies when it became clear that these advancements threatened one of the school's core educational formats: independent student work with texts. In response, SAS initiated a series of experiments across various courses aimed at transforming AI from a potential threat into a valuable resource and utilizing it in classes and coursework in a meaningful approach.
In June 2024, the University of Tyumen hosted the "Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education" forum, bringing together experts and leaders from top universities. The forum emphasized the significance of generative AI as a revolutionary technology poised to reshape higher education in the near future. The creation of the R&D Center for AI-Based Educational Solutions at SAS is intended to position Russian universities at the forefront of this transformation, reinforcing the ontological and epistemological complexity of contemporary higher education. Moreover, equiping students with the necessary skills for a job market and academia in an AI-dominated world.
The Center is open to collaboration with universities nationwide, offering customized solutions to challenges in pedagogy and professional training for university teachers capable of implementing and advancing these innovations. Moreover, the center will serve as a hub for the professional community to engage in critical discussions about the role of AI in education.
