AI as a supervisor

Ashraf Ismail, Research Seminar – Economics

SAS faculty also used AI chatbots to support thesis supervision. Ashraf Ismail, in his Research Seminar - Economics course, asked students to input their thesis hypotheses and data into various chatbots, such as ChatGPT 3.5, Gemini, and Perplexity, to obtain recommendations on methodology and economic models that could aid in completing their theses more efficiently.

Both students and Ashraf noted that the AI’s recommended models and methods were more helpful than anticipated, saving significant time and energy by streamlining the research process.
